Aqua Gen - Global GAP and Freedom Foods-certified

NORWAY - Fish breeding company Aqua Gen based in Trondheim, Norway, has received certification from Global GAP and Freedom Foods.

The certification covers the entire production process involved in brood fish and egg production. Aqua Gen is also certified according to Quality Standard ISO 9001:2000.

Aqua Gen said the certification is important to satisfy demands for traceability, quality assurance, environmental protection and animal welfare in the production of brood fish and eggs.

The company is a supplier to many seafood producers, who themselves have different certification requirements to fulfil. Aqua Gen said it has chosen to have several certifications, which meet the standards for sale in many markets with different certification needs.

Global GAP (Global Good Agricultural Practice) is an international standard which meets the demands of food safety, environmental protection, fish welfare and health, as well as security and welfare for the employees. This is a comprehensive standard which assures the consumer that production is carried out according to strictly defined criteria.

Freedom Foods is an animal welfare standard for production animals in Great Britain. This certification is supervised by the RSPCA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) which is one of the world's most respected animal welfare organizations.

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 9001:2000 is a standard for quality leadership. The standard requires a company to continually identify, direct, measure and improve its procedures.

All these three certifications require yearly review to ascertain that production/procedures are maintained according to standards.
