THAILAND - Krabi Fisheries Office is promoting cobia farming to replace grouper fish whose prices are lower now. Krabi Fishermen’s Club Chairman Manit Damsakul said that according to marketing data the cobia are more profitable and in need of overseas markets as Japanese and Korean use the fish for sushi like tuna.It takes 8 months for the fish to grow up to 6 kilograms and sell at 90 baht per kilo.
Meanwhile the Director of Krabi Fisheries Research and Development Centre, Paiboon Bunliptanond, said his centre has cobia babies available for sale at 5 baht each. Interested fish farmers can seek advice at the centre for the farming.
