Print This Page Humidity and heat damage the prawn farming in Krabi
THAILAND - The Chairman of Krabi Prawn Farming Club Pokklong Kerdsuk states that the unusual humidity in this dry season has caused damages to prawn farming in Krabi, forcing around 50% of them to suspend their operations.Facing debts, the farmers decided to wait about a couple of months until the temperature drops down.
Meanwhile the Krabi Fisheries head official, Opas Nualwilailak, suggested that farmers reduce the numbers of prawn farming during this season.
He explained that the immediate change of climate, with high humidity then rain causes stress to prawns. He said he has sent out his staff to give advice to prawn farmers along the Andaman coastal areas which accounted for around 2 thousand rai in 5 districts.
