Print This Page Consumers turn to Norwegian salmon
NORWAY - The scare of the bird flu after it has reached Europe, has made consumers in the EU countries turn from chicken to Norwegian salmon. So far this year the export of salmon has increased by 10 per cent, according to fresh figures.The sale of Norwegian salmon in the EU has increased markedly over the past week, while the sale of chicken has dropped drastically all over Europe, particularly in countries where the bird flu virus has been diagnosed.
The demand is unusually strong. There is no doubt that the bird flu affects the sale, says Ole-Eirik Leroey of the Leroy Seafood Group to Dagens Naeringsliv.
