THAILAND - Charoen Pokphand Group (CP) invaded ''large stretches of mangrove forest along Rayong's coasts'', says the senate environment committee, which will make a complaint to police on behalf of residents.Committee chairman Kaewsan Atipho accused the firm of forging title deeds to gain legal rights to more than 300 rai of public land in Klaeng district, Rayong. He would present his case to police chief Pol Gen Kowit Wattana today.
''Mangrove forest in Prasae bay was analysed using satellite pictures and remote sensing equipment.
''The findings proved that the five plots of land currently owned by the multi-national company were located in dense forest area and not cultivated farmland,'' said Mr Kaewsan.
In 1991 Shrimp Farm Co Ltd, a sister company of CP, started accumulating land in the area for a scheme to turn Klaeng district into a large shrimp farm to supply products for the group's import and export market.
